Search for the best AI CPA exam prep and you mostly get review companies grading themselves. Gleim’s blog calls its own assistant the best tool for the job, and UWorld and Becker publish AI study guides that lead to their own assistants. Those pages each tell you about one product. They rarely tell you the thing that decides what you pay: which plan the AI comes on.
That varies a lot. At UWorld and Becker the chat assistant comes with every package. At Gleim it comes with one package out of three, the most expensive. At NINJA it comes with the $87 monthly plan and not the $67 one. ExamPrep.ai has AI in its name, yet its own FAQ says the label refers to adaptive study and readiness prediction, and the public pages describe no chat tutor. This guide compares five products on that question, then on price, access and the fine print of the pass guarantees.
How we put this together. We have not used these tools ourselves. Every price and feature below comes from the vendor’s own website, and the exam facts come from the AICPA and NASBA, all read on 5 November 2026 and linked in the text. All prices were shown in US dollars. Course prices move with promotions, so treat them as a dated snapshot. None of these companies paid to appear on this page, and nothing here is tax or accounting advice.
Three brands you may be looking for now sell through UWorld
Older comparisons list Roger, Wiley and Surgent as rivals to UWorld. On 5 November 2026 that was out of date. UWorld says it acquired both Roger CPA Review and Wiley’s test prep and merged them into one platform, and the Efficient Learning site that used to sell Wiley’s course now carries a notice of the acquisition. Roger Philipp’s lectures live on inside UWorld’s course.
Surgent is the recent one. UWorld announced the purchase on 30 April 2026 and said Surgent’s products would carry on as usual. By 5 November, Surgent’s own CPA page was headed with the news that CPA review now runs through UWorld, and it was selling UWorld packages at a Surgent discount. It told existing customers that details of their access were being sent separately, and said Surgent’s Enrolled Agent review, Income Tax School and continuing education remain active. The practical point: if a roundup recommends Surgent’s Predictive AI as a separate CPA choice, check Surgent’s page first. New buyers are sent to UWorld’s course and its AI, not to a separate Surgent one.
What the CPA Exam looks like now
Any course or chatbot you use should match this structure. These facts come from the AICPA and NASBA, not from a prep company.
Three Core sections plus one Discipline
NASBA’s Candidate Guide (the current file is dated 2 November 2026) describes three four-hour Core sections and one four-hour Discipline section that you choose. Core is Auditing and Attestation (AUD), Financial Accounting and Reporting (FAR), and Taxation and Regulation (REG). The Discipline choice is Business Analysis and Reporting (BAR), Information Systems and Controls (ISC), or Tax Compliance and Planning (TCP). You can take them in any order, you need at least 75 on each, and your state board’s credit rule sets how long passed sections stay valid. If an app still lists BEC as a section, or leaves out ISC and TCP, it is describing an older exam or a partial one.
The AICPA says each section has five testlets, two of multiple-choice questions (MCQs) followed by three of task-based simulations (TBSs). Adding up its table gives these totals:
| Section | Type | MCQs | TBSs |
|---|---|---|---|
| AUD | Core | 78 | 7 |
| FAR | Core | 50 | 7 |
| REG | Core | 72 | 8 |
| BAR | Discipline | 50 | 7 |
| ISC | Discipline | 82 | 6 |
| TCP | Discipline | 68 | 7 |
When you can sit, and what changes in July 2027
NASBA’s exam FAQ says Core sections can be scheduled year-round, while Discipline sections can be scheduled only for the first month of each quarter. It also says the exam moves to a new delivery platform with interface changes from July 2027, with an adjusted schedule starting 12 July 2027. Gleim reports no testing from 1 to 11 July 2027. If your plan runs into next summer, check that any course’s practice software will be updated too.
Exam law is not always current law
This is where a general chatbot can trip you up. The AICPA’s policy on new pronouncements says tax changes become eligible for testing in the calendar quarter that starts six months after the effective or enactment date, whichever is later, and the older content then comes out. The AICPA also publishes a separate document on how the H.R. 1 tax law is handled. Reading that policy, Gleim says H.R. 1 provisions with 2024 and 2025 effective dates became testable on 1 July 2026, and gives the example of a rule effective 15 March 2026 becoming testable on 1 October 2026. UWorld says these changes touch REG and TCP only. An answer can be correct under today’s law and still wrong for the sitting you booked.

Free official material
The AICPA offers a free sample test on the real exam software, with questions from all six sections, up to two hours, and answers you can view. It does not produce a score and the AICPA says it does not show readiness, so use it to learn the screens. The same AICPA study page links the Blueprints, which set out what each section covers and how it is weighted. We found no AI study tutor from the AICPA or NASBA.

How we chose and ordered these
Every product had to describe an AI feature in its own words, show a price, cover the Core and Discipline structure, and be on sale to new CPA candidates. We put them in order by how much AI help a buyer gets at the entry price, how clearly the vendor explains it, how much course sits around the AI, and how clear the fine print is. This is an ordering by those points, and it says nothing about pass rates, because we found no independent figures that compare them.
The five tools
1. UWorld CPA Review: UAsk on every package
The AI. UAsk is a chat assistant built into UWorld’s CPA course, reachable from video lectures, the eTextbook, the question bank and practice exams across all six sections. UWorld says it is trained on UWorld’s own CPA materials and not on outside sources. Its launch announcement describes three months of beta testing with more than 5,000 candidates, and says human reviewers keep checking its answers. UWorld’s own suggested uses include plain-language explanations, real-world examples and cram sheets. Any response can still be wrong, so check it against the course text.

Plans and price. The package page includes UAsk in Premier, Elite-Unlimited and Elite-Unlimited+, and in single-section packages labelled with a plus. Premier was $1,999 for 18 months and four sections. Elite-Unlimited was $2,299 with access until you pass, printed guides, mock exams and live boot camps. Elite-Unlimited+ was $2,899 for all six sections. Surgent’s page lists the undiscounted figures as $3,499, $3,899 and $4,699, and says the unlimited access runs up to three years, with extensions if you can show an upcoming exam date. Every package has more than 9,000 MCQs and 500 TBSs.
Fine print. The money-back guarantee is on Elite-Unlimited+ alone: $250 per section, up to $1,000, if you meet study requirements. The 90% pass rate is self-reported and covers candidates who hit set targets, including 75% of the question bank and 60 days of study. UWorld’s homepage says that data reflects the previous version of the exam, while its pass-rate page says the current one.
Choose it if you want chat help at a lower entry price than Becker or Gleim, with Roger Philipp’s lectures. Skip it if you need all six sections and a guarantee but do not want the top package.
2. Becker: Newt on every package, and a price quirk this week
The AI. Becker says Newt is available to all its exam review students. Its AI guide describes a chat box that takes follow-up questions and draws its answers only from Becker’s curriculum, and it warns about AI hallucinations in tools without reliable sources. Becker also says AI works as a complement to a course and does not replace one. It uses separate Adapt2U technology for personalised practice tests.

Plans and price. The courses page shows Newt on all four packages. Until 9 November 2026, Pro was $2,499 (normally $3,845), Pro+ $2,698 (normally $4,044) and Concierge $4,999 (normally $6,349). Advantage was $2,499 with no reduction. So during this promotion, Pro and Advantage cost the same, yet Advantage has four sections, 24 months of access and no pass guarantee, while Pro has all six sections and unlimited access. Check that before you pick the package that sounds cheaper. Becker lists 9,500+ MCQs and 450+ TBSs on that page, and offers a 14-day free trial. Its Flex Pay option carries a processing fee of up to $119.
Fine print. The Pass Guarantee on Pro and Pro+ pays $250 per failed section, up to $1,000, as a virtual card. You must first reach Becker’s Exam Day Ready status: 80% of concept videos, 80% of practice MCQs and TBSs correct, and at least 50% on every simulated and mini exam. You must sit within 12 months of buying and claim within 90 days of the score. Concierge refunds 25% of the price per failed section, up to 100%. Purchases through firms and universities on direct billing are excluded.
Choose it if you want chat help plus classes or tutoring options as your budget allows. Skip it if you are buying after the promotion ends, until you have rechecked the price against UWorld’s.
3. Gleim: Prep Pal, on the top tier only
The AI. Prep Pal works differently from a free-form chat. In the course outlines, you highlight text and pick one of five actions: summarise, give an example, identify key points, define, or paraphrase. You can regenerate an answer if it does not help. Gleim announced it as a beta in January 2025 and described it as available after testing in May 2025, and those two posts are the fullest description it publishes. It says Prep Pal does not replace its Personal Counselors or Accounting Experts, who answer course questions. As those posts describe it, Prep Pal lives in the outlines, so do not assume it is there while you work questions.

Plans and price. Gleim’s comparison table ticks Prep Pal for Premium Pro alone. Traditional cost $2,499, Premium $2,999 and Premium Pro $3,499, so the assistant comes with a $500 step up from Premium, along with Sim drills by topic and unlimited Discipline switching. Premium Pro lists all six sections, 12,000+ MCQs, 1,200+ TBSs and two mock exams per section. Students can apply for up to 40% off. No wider promotion was showing when we read the page.
Fine print. Gleim’s promise is Access Until You Pass, which means continued access and updated materials, and we saw no cash back for a failed exam. Online materials can be cancelled within 30 days only if you have opened no more than one study unit.
Choose it if you want Gleim’s question volume and human experts, and the AI is a bonus. Skip it if AI chat is your main reason for buying, since two other large courses include chat at lower prices.
4. ExamPrep.ai: AI in the name, no chat tutor described
The AI. ExamPrep.ai is candid about this. Its FAQ calls the course “AI-enhanced,” not AI-created, and says AI refers to adaptive learning, study plans and its ReadyRating prediction, with lessons written by head instructor Nick Palazzolo, a CPA, and human experts. An AI model picks your next question and suggests what to focus on. One software roundup says it has an AI tutor that explains missed questions. We could not find that on the vendor’s homepage, comparison or guarantee pages, though we have not seen the logged-in product. Ask before you buy if chat matters to you.

Plans and price. A permanent free tier has 50+ lesson videos, 200+ questions, 100+ flashcards and 10 TBSs. Paid options were $59 a month for all courses, $199 for a single section with access until you pass, or $649 for all six. The full course lists 6,700+ questions including AICPA materials, 1,800+ lesson videos and 200+ TBSs. There is a 14-day money-back guarantee. Its about page says founder Michael Anuzis spent ten years at Google.
Fine print. Its Pass Guarantee comes free with paid plans and refunds you if you fail after reaching the eligible rating. The FAQ ties that to Level 5, which it describes as an 80%+ chance of passing. You must sit within four months of starting that section and claim within 90 days. The prediction is the vendor’s own model, so read it as guidance.
Choose it if you want AI to steer your practice and a lower price than the large courses. Skip it if you want to type questions to an assistant.
5. NINJA CPA Review: an AI companion on the higher monthly plan
The AI. NINJA’s sale page lists NINJAi Sensei in its product table with a short label: an AI-powered study companion. We found no fuller description of what it does on the public pages, so try it during the free trial before you rely on it. NINJA says it was built by Jeff Elliott around a study method, and that it can be a full course or a supplement to another one.

Plans and price. The Course plan is $87 a month and includes lectures and NINJAi Sensei. The Supplement plan is $67 a month and shows a cross against both, so the AI is one of the differences. NINJA lists 7,000+ MCQs and 300+ simulations across its sections and says you can cancel anytime. Checkout links are organised by exam section, and the page does not say plainly whether the price covers one section or all six, so confirm that first, because it changes the total a lot.
Fine print. The terms limit refunds to first-time customers who ask within 30 days and already have a Trending Score of 75 or more. They also mention a one-time upgrade fee of $197 that is non-refundable, which we did not see on the sale page.
Choose it if you are retaking a section or adding practice to a course you already own, and you prefer monthly billing. Skip it if you want a clearly explained AI feature.
What about ChatGPT or another general chatbot?
A general chatbot is a sensible baseline, and this page gives no price for one because plans change often. Researchers reported in 2023 that ChatGPT-4 averaged 85.1% on CPA exam material where the earlier version averaged 53.1%, according to CFO Dive. So it can reason through accounting. That says little about helping you learn, and that test predates today’s exam structure.
Two limits matter. A chatbot is not tied to the Blueprints or a course text, so you have nothing built-in to check it against, and UWorld and Becker both make this point about their rivals, with an obvious motive. And it can answer with the current law when your sitting tests something else, as the exam policy above shows. Use one to rephrase a concept, then confirm it with your course or the source standard. Check your course’s rules, and never paste copyrighted course questions into a public tool. For wider study help, see our guides to AI tutoring apps and AI tools for studying and summarising.
One more note on AI as exam content. In a post dated 4 November 2026, Gleim reads AI as appearing indirectly, through questions on audit evidence, risk and controls, and not as its own topic. That is a vendor’s reading, so use the Blueprints as your reference.
What we left out, and why
Surgent, Roger and Wiley are covered above, inside UWorld. CPA Exam AI had no US ratings and had not been updated since March 2023. AI CPA Study, sold as BudgetCPA, had four ratings, and its description lists BAR as the former BEC and names only FAR, REG, AUD and BAR, with no ISC or TCP. Maxwell CPA Review sells a monthly course with free AICPA released questions, but its homepage made no AI claim. Universal CPA Review’s site blocked our reader, so we make no claim about it. VoraPrep and CPAtutor AI both sell low-priced AI practice, but they look new and we could not establish a track record from their pages, so we left them out for now.
How to choose an AI CPA exam prep tool
Price the plan that has the AI
Do not compare entry prices alone. Chat help began at $1,999 at UWorld and $2,499 at Becker, while Gleim’s began at $3,499. Like for like, with all six sections and access that runs unlimited or until you pass, as each vendor words it, the figures on 5 November 2026 were $2,499 for Becker Pro during its promotion, $2,899 for UWorld Elite-Unlimited+ and $3,499 for Gleim Premium Pro.
Decide whether you need chat at all
The AI here does three jobs. UAsk and Newt answer questions in chat. Prep Pal reworks outline text. ExamPrep.ai chooses what you practise next and predicts readiness. If you learn by asking, pick a chat tool. If you stall on knowing what to do next, adaptive selection may help more, and UWorld, Becker and Gleim each have their own adaptive system too, called SmartPath, Adapt2U and SmartAdapt.
Check where the answers come from
UWorld and Becker say their assistants draw on their own course content, which ties answers to what you are studying. NINJA does not say much. Whichever you use, a clean explanation is no proof of accuracy, so spot-check against the course text, and take extra care with REG and TCP, where the testing date of a rule matters.
Read the guarantee as a remedy, not a promise
The remedies differ: $250 per section at Becker Pro and Pro+ and at UWorld’s top package, 25% per section at Becker Concierge, a refund at ExamPrep.ai if you reached its top rating, and continued access at Gleim. Nearly all require you to finish set work first, and several have sitting deadlines. A pass rate is also worth reading closely: UWorld’s 90% applies to candidates who met its targets and reported their own scores.
Match your timeline and your Discipline
Premier’s 18 months and Advantage’s 24 months have a clock. Monthly plans get expensive if you take a long time, and cheap if you finish fast. If you may change Discipline, check the terms: Gleim’s Premium allows one change and Premium Pro unlimited, UWorld lets you switch before using 10% of the subscription, and six-section packages avoid the issue. Remember that Discipline sections have limited scheduling months. For memorising in between, our AI flashcard apps guide may help, and our AI GMAT prep comparison shows the same plan and guarantee questions on a different exam.
Verdict
Start with the AICPA’s free sample test and the Blueprints. For a full course with AI chat at the lowest entry price, look at UWorld Premier, and move up if you need open-ended access. If you are buying before 9 November 2026 and want six sections with unlimited access, Becker Pro is priced the same as its four-section Advantage package, so that is the one to compare. Pick Gleim for its question volume and experts, and pay the extra for Prep Pal only if highlighting outline text suits how you study. If the budget is tight, ExamPrep.ai has a permanent free tier and a clear refund rule. Use a general chatbot as a helper, never as your source of what the exam tests.
